According to the Greek legislation, advanced degrees are granted only from the state-owned Universities. The National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” has been the first Institution in Greece that organized advanced courses for PhD students since early 1960s. For almost 50 years, PhD students perform their research work in “Demokritos” while the PhD degree is officially granted from one of the collaborating Universities.
