A research project entitled: Quantitative Failure Consequence Hazard Assessment for Next Generation CO2 Pipelines: The Missing Link was approved for funding by European Commission's FP7 Programme on Energy.  The project that will run for 3 years starting in October 2009 brings together 7 academic and industrial partners from UK, Greece, France, Norway and China.

In the course of this project, MTMML researchers will be involved in the development, validation and application of new models for the prediction of thermodynamic properties, transport properties and phase equilibria of pure CO2 and CO2 mixtures over a wide range of conditions, including the supercritical state.

MTMML has two new research positions available for this project for:
(a) A post-doctoral fellow, and
(b) A PhD student.

For the post-doctoral position, ideal candidates are expected to have:
(a) A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science or Physics with emphasis to chemical or molecular thermodynamics, molecular simulation or similar,
(b) Excellent programming skills in Fortran or C / C++,
(c) A proven track record of successfully delivering complex software development projects,
(d) Strong cross-platform development skills (Linux, Windows) using modern toolkits (C++, Qt, Python).

For the PhD position, ideal candidates are expected to have:
(a) A University degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or Physics. An M.Sc. degree or equivalent is highly desirable,
(b) Good programming skills in Fortran or C / C++,
(c) Good cross-platform development skills (Linux, Windows) using modern toolkits (C++, Qt, Python).

Interested candidates should send the following information to the MTMML Director, Dr. Ioannis Economou (as .pdf files), at: economou@chem.demokritos.gr by 30 September 2009, at the latest:
(a) Detailed CV with description of relevant experience,
(b) University transcript(s),
(c) Copies of scientific publications, and
(d) Two letters of recommendation.

Both positions are available for a period of 3 years starting on 15 October 2009.
